Legacy Serial Devices

Legacy serial devices are those found on the computer motherboard or as ISA/PCI extension cards.
Some older PCMCIA cards are also from this type.

COM2 /dev/ttyS1 -



USB Serial Devices

Also known as virtual devices.
Communication results variate depending on the used chip set in the USB converter.
Not all support hardware handshake like RTS/CTS; Check the setup in Rocrail.

COM5 ²) /dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/tty.* ¹)


¹) Naming is manufacturer dependent; check with "ls -l /dev/tty.*" after connecting the device.
²) The first USB-Serial converter is mostly mapped on COM5.
